Barcelona and Malgrat de Mar (p. 1)

It's a really easy pack when we come to Spain, I pack a 40 litre Berghaus hold-all and Victoria a small suitcase and we still have loads of space left even given that Victoria has four pairs of  shoes.

On Wednesday we set off from home at about 06:30 and were at East  Midlands Airport by 07:00 having dropped off the car at Jet Parks we were in the terminal and having breakfast in the Castle Rock bar in departures.

Ryanair had us at Barcelona El Prat in a couple of hours and we were soon on the train into town. Rather than catching the connecting train straight to the resort we got off at Placa De Catalunya, visited the lovely Mercado De La Boqueria and then had Tapas, Sangria and Cervesas on the Rambla Catalunya before boarding our train up the coast to Malgrat De Mar.

Checking in to the Aqua Bella Playa we dropped off our luggage, had a bite of supper before a walk around town and beers and Carcassonne in the hotel bar. It really started raining that evening.

Thursday was a really loafing day, after breakfast we wandered up to the casa in the old town. Then back to our room and splashed on the sun cream for an afternoon of blissful inactivity around the pool, you would not have thought it had rained so much yesterday. In the evening we repeated the previous evenings walk followed by a walk in to the neighbouring resort of Santa Susanna before back to the hotel bar for sangria, cervesas and Carcassonne in the bar.

We breakfasted early on Friday then caught the 0930 into Barcelona for a lovely day of ambling, drinking and eating in the city.

First stop was a coffee on the harbour and a wander along the Ramblas before back to a tapas bar in  Mercado De La Boqueria where we shared a Padron Peppers and each had a cervesas.

Further along the Ramblas we cut into the alleyways and rediscovered one of our favourite bars, Muccis, it's a bit of a student bar. The Stone Roses and The Cure were on the playlist, the Mojitos were only €3.50 and the tapas of olives and cheeses excellent. Mindful that we could make a proper session of it we managed to escape after a couple of rounds.

We did some more mooching around the alleyways and I stopped for a photo in Placa De George Orwell before picking up the Rambla Catalunya for a final few plates of tapas with a cervesas for me and a sangria for Victoria before boarding the packed train back to the resort in time for dinner at the hotel. Stuffed from all the tapas and beers I just had a fruit salad.

On Saturday we had a lie in and missed breakfast at the hotel so visited a local cafe for some lovely churros and chocolate before a day of complete loafing around the pool followed by a walk around town and a shared sangria before bed.

This morning we had another lie in - not bad for a chap who is usually up by 0600 - and after breakfast took coffees on the terrace before a stroll along the seafront. We stopped at one of our favourite beach bars Chamacaos for a frozen Margarita and a beer enjoying watching the sights on the beach.

Walking into Malgrat we stopped at Cafe Milano to have a Fabrizzio - a bit of a tradition - before coming back to the where I now sit writing this on our balcony.
